URBANIMAL the new art project which reflects on the contemporary urban and exhibition space conceived as a living and pulsating organism. Throughout the seven months of the exhibitions, URBANIMAL will be hosting – like a shelter – the artistic sensitivity of some selected international artists who will exhibit under the “environmental influence” of the silent and attentive city of Venice. From the 11st of May the building of Fondazione Masieri will become a real “artistic ecosystem” where the exhibition area is not only conceived as a part of the work of art, but also includes the surrounding environment, even on a universal scale. The space on the ground floor will be turned into an “ideal room” where all the peculiar features of the area will be organically studied and will be mirroring the integration of visual art, design and architecture.
On this occasion, starting from Saturday the 11stof May till the 30thof November, the prestigious building of Fondazione Masieri will reopen to the public after years at the same time as the 58thInternational Art Biennale. This building which is exactly located on the curve of the Grand Canal (Dorsoduro), represents one of the less known restorations by the master of the Italian architecture Carlo Scarpaand its history is certainly one of the most complicated. (Dorsoduro 3900, Venice - Waterbus Stop S.Tomà )
THE EXHIBITIONS Throughout the months of the exhibitions, the building of Fondazione Masieri will be hosting different phenomenas of development in the field of “ecology of art” housing the famous installation in recyclable and recycled plastic by Cracking Art – symbols of the project (May-November). There will also be the artworks by the provocative international artist Robert Gligorov(May-July); the celebration of the silicone by the designer Alessandro Ciffo(October, in collaboration with Venice Design Week 2019) and3D_ArtDesign the art creations conceived by an exceptional female triad who will display the designing elements with blurry and rarefied edges, Antonia Trevisan, Beatrice Macor e Laura Zuliani.
Meerkats as symbols/watchmen to carefully guard the Grand Canal (from which they’re observed too) – in this project their presence suggests to the passer-by and the visitors to increase their own awareness towards the surrounding environment which deserves it. Meerkats represent a unique example of animal behaviour in the field of living beings. In URBANIMAL the Meerkats suggest the concept of “ecological space” where artworks, design objects and installations share the same delicate environmental system in a heterogeneous way.
The installation of the Meerkats in recyclable and recycled plastic in the building of Fondazione Masieri is part of the artistic process started by Cracking Art in 2012 when they began to carry out initiatives of urban and social regeneration through the use of art installations. In these years of urban actions – under the label of “Art Regenerates Art” – Cracking Art has concretely restored several precious cultural heritage sites in Italy and abroad. For example the restoration of the highest spire of the Milan Cathedral and the restoration of the Portico of St. Luke in Bologna. In Venice Cracking Art gives the public the opportunity to purchase a coloured selection of Urban Animals in recyclable and recycled plastic within the desk area of the exhibition URBANIMAL. The takings will be totally donated to Fondazione Masieri in order to support the restoration works.
If you buy a work of Cracking Art, you'll support the building of Fondazione Masieri!
